Volunteers are the heart and soul of MADD. Without them, MADD would have no one to stand beside an injured survivor in court, to offer support to a grieving family member, to encourage teenagers to celebrate sober proms and graduations or to educate DUI offenders about the catastrophic consequences of their actions!!
MADD Volunteer Opportunities Victim Advocate: Are you a caring, nurturing person? These volunteers provide support to victims of drunk driving collisions who contact our MADD office. Training is provided. Victim Advocates assist at support groups and attend court sessions with victims. This is the heart and soul of what MADD is all about - helping victims of drunk driving crashes. Court Monitoring: Court Monitors have the fascinating opportunity to observe DUI cases as they proceed through the courtroom. Prospective volunteers should have an interest in the legal system and have the ability to keep accurate records. Volunteers should possess tact and be assertive. A day-long training session is provided. Weekday availability is necessary. Legislation: Volunteers who enjoy following legislation through committees to adoption write letters to local legislators on impaired driving issues. Input on bills is provided by state office. Speakers Bureau: Volunteers help increase public awareness about MADD and educate the public to the dangers of drinking and driving. Interested speakers attend a MADD training seminar provided by the State Office. Booth Volunteer: Volunteers distribute informational literature, bumper stickers and other pertinent material at community events, fairs, and conventions. A great chance to increase public awareness and meet new people. Office Administrative Assistant: Volunteers work at the state office doing various projects such as computer data input, inventory, special project preparations, bulk mailings, answering phones, photocopying, and putting together packets of information. Working in the office is a terrific way to get hands on office experience and meet great people and learn what MADD is all about! Fund-raiser: Enthusiastic and assertive volunteers who can help raise much needed funds and equipment for MADD programs. Fund-raisers obtain prizes and donated goods/services for the many projects that MADD needs sponsors for. Also experience in grant-writing is needed. A real challenge for the right person. Special Events: If you are a busy person who can only volunteer occasionally, helping out at MADD special events may be right for you! Volunteer throughout the year for a variety of special activities. Artist/Graphics: Help putting together our newsletter or the many brochures and materials that we distribute. Also, volunteers create decorations for special events and do calligraphy. Every volunteer opportunity at MADD is important and vital to our mission -- to stop drunk driving and support the victims of this violent crime. MADD volunteers work all over the state. Volunteers can choose to come to one of the chapter offices or to the state office in Anchorage. As a MADD volunteer, your time commitment is up to you. You can choose to work a few hours a day, a week, or a month, or you can be on call for special events a few times a year. The benefits of working with MADD include:
